AD Ports Group acquires MBS Logistics
May 18, 2026 at 11:50 AMDHL Freight and DB Cargo are expanding their collaboration in rail freight transport and adapting the existing offering to the specific needs of their customers. Starting in early May 2026, the Parcel Intercity (PIC) will be supplemented by twelve additional train connections per week to strengthen the north-south connections between Hamburg, Nuremberg, and Kornwestheim (Stuttgart).
Realignment of night connections
At the center of the adjustments is the restructuring of the existing night service. The Hamburg–Kornwestheim connection will be replaced by the new Hamburg–Nuremberg connection, which allows for a direct overnight link from Nuremberg to Hamburg. This connection will be offered as an E+1 service, meaning that shipments will be loaded on the day of dispatch and delivered on the following business day. The trains can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h.
The Hamburg–Kornwestheim connection will remain part of the network and will be complemented by a new service. Since May 4, 2026, there are five trains per week in each direction (Tuesday to Saturday). Starting June 6, 2026, the service will be expanded to include weekend connections, resulting in a total of six trains per direction and week (Tuesday to Sunday). The transit time will henceforth be structured as an E+2 service, which means delivery on the second business day after dispatch. This arrangement aims to ensure stable and predictable processing under the given infrastructural conditions and offers an advantage over road transport, particularly by circumventing the truck driving ban on weekends.
The expansion of services complements the existing rail network and creates additional capacity for the main flow of packages and other goods. These adjustments illustrate how existing structures can be further developed to meet specific requirements.
