Lübeck: Schwarz rises
Jul 13, 2026 at 7:25 AMThe electric locomotive „EURO6000“ from Stadler has recently received operating approval for Belgium, having already been authorized for Luxembourg at the end of 2025. This approval expands the operational area of the „EURO6000“ and underscores its role in cross-border freight transport in Western Europe, according to a statement from the manufacturer. The locomotive is currently the only one operating on the important North Sea-Mediterranean route, according to Stadler.
The „EURO6000 fleet“ consists of over 100 locomotives that already serve international freight transport connections between France and Spain. These locomotives are equipped with six axles and a power output of 6 MW. They are designed to transport freight trains weighing over 2,000 tons even on steep gradients in single-locomotive operation.
Expanded operational capabilities
With the approval for Belgium, the „EURO6000“ will be able to further optimize cross-border logistics in Western Europe, as Stadler reports. The locomotive supports freight transport and is expected to contribute to improving logistical processes in the region. The North Sea-Mediterranean corridor, where the „EURO6000“ operates, connects freight transport routes between Southern and Northern Europe and includes countries such as Spain, France, Luxembourg, and Belgium.
