May 28, 2026 at 2:02 PMBLG LOGISTICS today inaugurated the new location at Südhafen „Roter Sand“ in Bremerhaven. A modern infrastructure has been created on an area of approximately 60,000 square meters, designed for the handling and technical processing of heavy cargo and complex project shipments. The official inauguration was conducted by Axel Krichel, a member of the board and COO of the BLG Group, along with Senator Kristina Vogt and Matthias Magnor, the chairman of the board of BLG.
Infrastructure for High & Heavy Project Logistics
The Südhafen „Roter Sand“ is specifically tailored to the requirements of High & Heavy project logistics. Four halls for technical work are available directly at the quay. The central element of the new area is Hall 14, which is equipped with a ceiling crane and offers the possibility to assemble large components directly by the water.
Two berths with a total length of 600 meters are designated for deep-sea RoRo carriers. To ensure the secure mooring of large ships, eleven new high bollards have been installed. The infrastructure is complemented by a modern IT connection, realized through a fiber optic cable laid specifically from Kaiserhafen.
Expansion of Capacities in Bremerhaven
With this investment, BLG LOGISTICS is expanding its capacities in the field of heavy cargo and project logistics in Bremerhaven. The inauguration marks a significant step after a lengthy construction and planning phase, which brought additional challenges due to the use of substitute construction materials.
Senator Kristina Vogt expressed positive remarks about the new location: „With the new site, Bremerhaven can develop even better in the area of heavy cargo and project shipments. This ensures more capacity and more efficient processes while simultaneously strengthening the port’s significance for the economy in the region.“ She emphasized that BLG’s investment is a strong signal for the creation of a reliable port infrastructure that enables companies to have shorter routes and more planning security for demanding transports.
Axel Krichel added: „The ‚Roter Sand‘ location is our extended workbench with water access and a clear commitment to the High & Heavy sector. With this area, we are opening up new business fields within project logistics and creating additional capacities for technical services directly at the quay.“
Important Location in European RoRo Traffic
The High & Heavy sector at the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven is one of the leading locations in European RoRo traffic. With a handling volume of around one million tons of High & Heavy goods per year, the terminal is one of the largest of its kind in Europe.
Annually, about 1,000 departures to more than 200 ports worldwide are conducted, enabling diverse connections for international project logistics. The new location expands the existing capacities, particularly in the area of technical processing and water-side project execution. Already, initial orders from project logistics are being processed at the Südhafen, underscoring the practicality of the new infrastructure and the demand for additional capacities in the High & Heavy sector.
