Dachser achieves record revenue in 2025
Apr 14, 2026 at 12:50 PMVolvo Trucks has advanced the development of electric commercial vehicles and presents new electric trucks that offer improved performance, greater flexibility, and ranges of up to 700 km. These models aim to set new standards in the heavy electric commercial vehicle segment.
New Models for Long-Distance Transport
The focus is on the new electric long-distance truck, the Volvo FH Aero Electric, which is equipped with a range of up to 700 km per charge. This range is made possible by an innovative drive technology known as the E-axle, which creates more space for battery capacity. The truck is also designed for the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), allowing for fast charging of the batteries from 20% to 80% in about 50 minutes. These charging times are designed to be completed within the legally mandated rest periods for truck drivers in the EU, thereby increasing productivity.
Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, emphasizes: “This electric long-distance truck is the best of its kind. It not only offers outstanding range but also high payload, fast charging, and excellent driving comfort.” This enables customers to cover long distances throughout an entire workday while achieving the same productivity as with diesel trucks.
Expanded Applications of the New Series
In addition to the FH Aero Electric, Volvo Trucks introduces the next generation of heavy series Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX Electric. These models achieve ranges of up to 470 km and offer a new powertrain that allows maximum flexibility in various applications. The trucks are designed to operate with different vehicle bodies such as concrete mixers or refuse bodies without the need for additional drive motors. This is made possible by a new independent power take-off (PTO) that can also be used while driving.
“The next generation of Volvo FH, Volvo FM, and Volvo FMX Electric models features a variety of modern, intelligent functions. They provide high driver comfort and enable emission-free transport for a wide range of transport tasks,” explains Roger Alm.
Optimized Drive Technology for Better Driving Characteristics
All new trucks are equipped with an I-Shift transmission optimized for electric drive, which, in combination with two motors, ensures balanced and controlled performance. The new powershift transmissions offer smooth gear changes and contribute to a more pleasant working environment by producing lower noise and vibration levels. The new models from Volvo Trucks will be available starting summer 2026.
