Prologis has completed a new urban distribution center in Berlin-Lichtenberg, covering an area of 19,391 square meters. The facility is located on a revitalized industrial site on Plauener Strasse and is already fully leased. Tenants include Alliance Healthcare Deutschland, Picnic, and Elis, which utilize the premises for pharmaceutical and food supply as well as for professional and protective textiles. In total, around 270 jobs will be created at this location, contributing to local employment in essential services, as the company reports.
Functional Adjustments
Alliance Healthcare Deutschland GmbH, a company specializing in pharmaceutical wholesale and health logistics, will ensure the distribution of pharmaceuticals in the Berlin metropolitan area and beyond from this location. To meet the specific requirements of health logistics, the building has been adjusted in several areas, as Prologis reports. For instance, unloading openings for small transporters instead of a traditional loading dock will ensure shorter distances within the operation. Additionally, storage zones with a constant temperature range of 17 to 21 °C have been established to support pharmaceutical storage.
Picnic, a provider of last-mile deliveries for groceries, has also signed a long-term lease for the new logistics center. In the associated areas, Prologis combines office and storage spaces with docks for delivery vehicles. Access roads and loading zones for electric vehicles enable loading and unloading in last-mile operations.
