Jun 10, 2026 at 9:18 AMThe Mukran Port in Sassnitz is planning a comprehensive expansion to meet the demands of the offshore wind energy industry. In a statement, it was announced that the land and port will invest more than 25 million euros in the development of a specialized terminal for heavy and project cargo. The completion of the project is scheduled for spring 2027.
Expansion of berth 10
Berth 10 is to be converted into a high-performance specialized terminal. According to Henry Forster, Managing Director of Mukran Port, the expansion is necessary to adapt the land-based infrastructure to the large dimensions of modern offshore components. This is an important step to secure the long-term competitiveness of the Mukran location. Forster emphasizes that the energy transition requires powerful ports.
As part of the construction measures, the current 123-meter-long berth will be extended to 240 meters, which means a nearly doubling of the sheet pile wall. Additionally, the port floor will be deepened to a maximum of -12.50 zero height meters. A new heavy-duty slab with an area of 1,670 square meters and a load capacity of 50 tons will be constructed on cast-in-place concrete piles. Furthermore, a RoRo ramp will be installed.
In parallel with these works, the logistics area will also be expanded by approximately 8,000 square meters, with a rainwater drainage system planned. To ensure continuous 24-hour operations, the technical infrastructure will also be optimized through the expansion of power supply and lighting.
