Impact of E-Commerce growth on retail real estate in Europe
Jun 16, 2026 at 8:58 AMAfter a construction period of 16 months, ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has opened the newly designed container terminal in Přerov-Horní Moštěnice. With a doubled area and optimized infrastructure, the terminal is intended to be positioned as an important logistics hub in Central Europe, as the company reports.
Expansion and modernization of the terminal
The revitalization project aims to address long-standing capacity bottlenecks at the terminal. In particular, the lack of handling areas and access to individual tracks have been addressed. According to RCG, the total area of the terminal has been expanded by approximately 17,100 m² to around 36,000 m². This measure is expected to enable an increase in capacity, which now stands at around 3,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit).
Benefits for the region and customers
The modernized terminal offers advantages for both customers and the region, according to RCG. Processing is expected to become faster and more reliable, while the capacity for handling containers and semi-trailers is set to increase significantly. Furthermore, Přerov will be strengthened as a distribution center in Central Moravia. Future plans include the expansion of new rail connections to the ports of Koper and Rijeka, as well as the strengthening of intermodal routes in Central Europe. The integration into Eurasian rail connections via Budapest is also planned.
