Keimelmayr joins Lagermax
Jun 12, 2026 at 10:04 AMA few days after the ceremonial presentation of the new Do228 NXT, the German aircraft manufacturer General Atomics AeroTec Systems announced its first sale. The buyer is an unnamed non-governmental organization (NGO) specializing in humanitarian missions. The purchase agreement follows the successful maiden flight and presentation of the demonstration aircraft from the Do228 NXT series.
Versatile applications
The Do228 NXT is described as a modern and adaptable aircraft designed for a variety of humanitarian and special missions. Intended operations include search and rescue missions, medical evacuations, disaster relief, logistics and transport, environmental monitoring, as well as reconnaissance and assessment flights. Furthermore, the aircraft can be used in coordination missions and as air support for emergency operations.
The Do228 NXT is capable of operating from short or challenging runways and can be quickly deployed to affected regions. Its combination of short takeoff and landing capabilities, operational efficiency, and reliability in challenging environments makes it particularly suitable for missions where access, speed, and reliability are critical.
A representative of the NGO commented on the purchase:
“Every mission aims to reach people and places where support is urgently needed. The Do228 NXT will enhance our operational flexibility in a variety of humanitarian scenarios and help us support communities more effectively when it matters most.”
Confirmation for further development
The Do228 NXT targets a wide range of operators and mission profiles, including humanitarian, governmental, and transport-related applications. Florian Rohe, Managing Director of General Atomics AeroTec Systems, stated:
“We are very pleased that the contracts for the first Do228 NXT have been signed and that the aircraft will be delivered to the first customer in early 2027. This confirms that the decision to further develop the Do228 NXT and resume production was the right one.”
Rohe emphasized that the aircraft’s flexibility makes it attractive to customers seeking a robust platform for diverse operational requirements.
