TGW Group Establishes Fulfillment Center for ICA Sweden
Sep 9, 2022 at 6:45 PMAs part of the consolidation of two locations, BAUKING has also reorganized the storage of its wooden products at its Lorup site. In a new shelf hall built from cantilever racks by OHRA, the customers of the building materials dealer can now find all wooden goods centrally in one place. The shelving system also offers significantly more storage capacity, allowing BAUKING to stock a larger number of different items.
(Kerpen/Lorup) To ensure proper drainage of the outdoor storage area, the floor slab on which the hall stands has a slope of 0.7 percent in two directions. OHRA compensated for the slope through the suspension of the cantilever arms in a tight hole grid and a special, flexible roof construction.
All wooden goods at one location
To provide its customers with a better overview and quicker access to the wooden goods, BAUKING decided to store all wooden goods centrally in the new shelf hall at the location. Such a shelf hall, where the shelves serve as a supporting structure for the roof and walls, is significantly more flexible and cost-effective than a traditional warehouse. BAUKING planned a hall consisting of three cantilever rack rows, each approximately 20 meters long. The over 7.8-meter-high cantilever racks are equipped with up to seven storage levels.
Roof arms of the racks not connected
The rack rows are aligned along a slope direction. Since the cantilever arms of the OHRA racks can be flexibly suspended in a tight hole grid, the racks were able to easily compensate for the height difference of about 14 centimeters along the rack length. To compensate for the second slope in the transverse direction to the rack rows in the roof construction, OHRA implemented a variably designed roof ridge. The roof arms of the racks are not connected to each other, but there is a gap of about 10 centimeters between them. This gap is covered by a flexible ridge cap, ensuring that the interior of the hall remains dry. This ridge solution not only compensates for the height difference between the rack rows but also guarantees that vibrations and stresses, which may arise during storage, do not transfer from one rack row to another. Thus, the roof construction is protected from damage in the covering.
Significantly more efficient logistics processes
The new shelf hall for wooden goods enables significantly more efficient logistics processes at the BAUKING location in Lorup. Customers can access a larger product range; for example, items up to 13 meters in length can now be stored without any issues. By centrally storing all wooden goods in a cantilever rack system, customers receive the desired products in a shorter time.
