Mar 3, 2021 at 12:12 PMChallenging times require foresight and ideas – even in tour planning. The PASS Consulting Group presents a completely revised version of its dispatch software PLANTOUR. Highlights include a new optimization algorithm, improved routing and distance calculation, as well as an extensive Points-of-Interest library for geocoding. Additionally, it is moving to the cloud.
(Aschaffenburg) How can I align my dispatch business processes economically and flexibly? This question concerns companies across various industries. With the new PLANTOUR release 2021, PASS provides answers. The most important innovation is that PLANTOUR now also sources map data, route calculation, and geocoding up to the optimization service from the cloud. This has the advantage that the update of map data happens in the background, allowing the user to always work with the latest algorithms and data. Orders as well as customer and tour data remain with the user on-site and are always available. A significant benefit: By using PASS cloud services, PLANTOUR can now also be operated with a smaller server.
Clear colors and structured menus
The new PLANTOUR layout brings a breath of fresh air. It features a straightforward design with new icons, modern colors, and clearly structured menus. Another highlight is the new maps, which have been created with great attention to detail. Additionally, the possible map network of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland has been expanded to a fully represented world map. The software now displays individual buildings, a more detailed railway network, and an improved representation of water bodies and forest areas. Of course, the world map functions not only in display but is also used in route optimization. This allows for easy planning and calculation of routes on the map between countries connected by road networks.
Extensive improvements in routing and distance calculation Previously, several steps in the form of network calculation and coordinate intersection were necessary before actual planning. This is now a thing of the past. From now on, everything happens automatically or is calculated in real-time. Addresses are automatically “snapped” to the nearest street with meter precision, and travel distances are calculated with second accuracy.
New version is KEP-capable
Thus, PLANTOUR has become “KEP-capable”, meaning entire street sections can be planned with meter precision. Especially in graphical geocoding, building geometries and coordinate snapping help to make the exact location. New optimization algorithm The new algorithm PASS Optimization Service (POS) works strictly cost-based, allowing for fine-grained control of the optimization goal and individual control over cost rates. The optimal tour is created: as quickly as possible, as short as possible, with as few vehicles as possible, etc. Independently of this, the new POS also offers many other features: including Pickup & Delivery, more options for break regulations, individual consideration of the fleet regarding costs, as well as restrictions. Improvements in geocoding and coordinate assignment For retailers or direct suppliers, it is a great help to now also be able to automatically use an extensive Points-of-Interest library for geocoding. Names of discount store branches, shopping malls, or companies can be stored in the customer database and used for easier location through geocoding. Airport codes can also be integrated into the search.

Many new features
Many professional and technical improvements Also “under the hood” of the software, many improvements have been made: PLANTOUR now impresses with a simplified and faster installation, the latest open-source base technologies, such as Open JDK, and an improved client installer; which brings its own Java Runtime and thus avoids conflicts with local versions. “We are pleased to be able to offer our customers a version update with many new features in 2021,” says Jan Junker, board member of PASS Logistics Solutions AG. “Our revisions elevate the software in many areas, especially in terms of ease of use and quality results, to a new level.” Status: March 1, 2021 Characters: 4,503 characters (including spaces)
