May 26, 2026 at 9:00 AMWith the death of Hans Heiner Honold on May 17, 2026, the logistics industry loses a significant figure. The entrepreneur, born in 1943, leaves behind a substantial legacy in the Honold Logistics and Real Estate Group, which he significantly built and shaped. Under his leadership, the company evolved from a regional freight forwarder to an internationally operating service provider with a turnover of around 300 million EUR, over 1 million m² of logistics and commercial space, and approximately 1,400 employees.
Influential initiatives in logistics
Honold was not only a co-founder of the German Parcel Service (DPD) but also the initiator of Night Star Express. These initiatives have had a lasting impact on the German logistics landscape. Additionally, he was involved in the founding of numerous cooperations and networks, including Pinguin, Deutsche Textillogistik, CODIS, and System Alliance. With the Ulm Logistics Day, he created a recognized forum for exchange and innovation within the industry.
His commitment also extended to the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and other economic and social institutions, which he actively shaped over decades.
Entrepreneurial development and succession
Honold’s entrepreneurial career began in 1964 when he took over responsibility in the fourth generation at the age of 21. Under his leadership, the company transformed from a groupage transport and furniture transport service to a modern logistics provider with an international focus.
In 2005, he handed over operational responsibility to his son, Heiner Matthias Honold, but remained closely connected to the company as an advisor until his death. His more than forty years of leadership at the company are a crucial part of the current success of the Honold Logistics and Real Estate Group.
Commitment to education and science
In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Honold was involved in various associations and institutions, including the Club of Industry and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He placed particular importance on promoting education, young talent, and science, as well as supporting logistics degree programs at universities in Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
As the Honold Logistics & Real Estate Group GmbH & Co. KG announced, Hans Heiner Honold will be remembered as an outstanding entrepreneur and a dedicated family businessman. His life’s work and commitment will have an impact far beyond the boundaries of his company.
