Mar 5, 2026 at 1:20 PMTurkish Airlines has announced that it will withdraw its cargo planes starting at the end of March. This will result in the loss of up to a quarter of the weekly cargo flights at Linz Airport. According to airport spokesperson Ingo Hagedorn, air freight will continue to be transported to Linz Airport and prepared for flight transport on pallets. Instead of loading onto a plane to Istanbul, the transport will now be done by truck. These trucks will operate to Vienna until June and to Budapest starting in July, where Turkish Airlines has stationed its cargo planes. From Budapest, the goods will then be forwarded to Istanbul.
Currently, 70% of Linz’s air freight is already being transported to other airports via road replacement services, while only 30% is flown directly from Linz.
DHL remains active
Despite the withdrawal of Turkish Airlines, the German parcel and express mail service DHL will continue to offer regular cargo flights to Linz. The airport plans to hold discussions with Turkish Airlines to resume cargo flights at the end of October as part of the winter flight schedule. Turkish Airlines had previously paused its cargo operations and returned to Linz in April 2020.
In 2025, a total of 47,865 tons of air freight were handled at Linz Airport, representing a decline of 9.5% compared to the previous year. The flown cargo amounted to 15,215 tons, which corresponds to 31.7% of the total volume.
