No complaints were received within the legally stipulated period of 30 days, marking a significant advancement for the realization of the project. With the conclusion of the complaint procedure for the planning approval, the implementation of Gateway Basel Nord can now proceed to the next phase.
Important Hub for Freight Transport
The planned trimodal terminal will be constructed at a strategically important location on international transport axes. It is intended to serve as a central hub for import and export by efficiently consolidating traffic flows from ship, rail, and road. This infrastructure will not only accommodate the growing volumes of goods between Switzerland, the seaports, and the European economic centers but also relieve the Rhine port of Kleinhüningen and eliminate existing capacity bottlenecks.
A key advantage of Gateway Basel Nord lies in the consolidation of goods flows at a single location. This enables a significant strengthening of rail transport, as up to 50 percent of goods can be distributed environmentally friendly by rail into Switzerland.
The project is thus regarded as a key initiative for an efficient and future-proof logistics system in Switzerland. The realization of Gateway Basel Nord could play a crucial role in addressing the logistical challenges of the coming years and enhancing the competitiveness of the Swiss economic location.
