Accelleron office Baden, Switzerland
Accelleron has launched a partnership with the organization Whale Guardians, aimed at increasing the safety of whales during shipping traffic. As part of this collaboration, a commercial travel optimization tool is being developed that integrates conservation routing data. This is intended to optimize the routing decisions of ships to reduce the risk of collisions with whales, as stated by the company based in Baden (Switzerland).
The initiative was presented on World Oceans Day, celebrated annually on June 8. This day highlights the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and biodiversity. Ship collisions pose one of the threats to whales, costing thousands of animals their lives each year. These incidents not only endanger the whales themselves but also have negative impacts on the health of the oceans. Whales play a crucial role in the marine ecosystem by contributing to the cleaning and fertilization of waters and helping to store large amounts of carbon dioxide through their way of life.
Integration of conservation data into ship navigation
Whale Guardians, in collaboration with local partners, has studied the interactions between whales and shipping traffic at significant port locations worldwide. Based on this research, suitable routes and areas to be avoided have been defined. These measures aim to reduce the likelihood of collisions and minimize the associated environmental damage and costs.
Accelleron plans to integrate the findings from Whale Guardians into its „OptiNav“ AI travel optimization tool. This integration allows ship operators, according to manufacturer specifications, to choose routes that avoid whales and consider speed profiles that reduce the risk of collisions.
