May 22, 2026 at 10:47 AMUTA Edenred, a mobility service provider in Europe, will offer three toll solutions in the Netherlands starting July 1, 2026. These include the EETS toll boxes UTA One® next, UTA RoadPass Pro, and the NedLinq OBU. With the introduction of a distance-based toll system, the previous Eurovignette will become invalid. All vehicles over 3.5 tons must be equipped with a toll box to pay the toll fees, regardless of the use of toll roads. The new truck toll, known as „Vrachtwagenheffing,“ applies to nearly all highways as well as certain provincial and municipal roads, affecting both Dutch and foreign trucks.
New Toll System and Its Goals
The new toll system in the Netherlands aims to create a fairer distribution of costs for road usage. The revenue from the toll is intended to be used for the expansion, maintenance, and modernization of the road network. This is part of efforts to make road freight transport more environmentally friendly and to reduce emissions in the transport sector in the long term.
The UTA One® next is a 4G-compatible On-Board Unit (OBU) suitable for distance-based toll payment in 18 European countries. It offers features such as fleet monitoring and remote changes via the HUB4Trucks platform. The UTA RoadPass Pro is also a 4G-compatible OBU, characterized by flexibility and already in use in 10 EU countries as well as for various bridges and tunnels. The NedLinq OBU is specifically designed for toll processing in the Netherlands and is suitable for both regular and spontaneous trips to the country.
UTA Edenred recommends ordering the On-Board Units early to ensure that all vehicles are equipped in time. Late orders cannot guarantee timely delivery. Users of the UTA One® next can activate the toll context for the Netherlands now in the UTA Service Center to be ready by July 1. Additionally, an English-language webinar on the new toll system will be offered on June 11, 2026, for which interested parties can register.
Information on tolls in the Netherlands and the appropriate On-Board Units is accessible via the UTA website.
