May 13, 2026 at 12:58 PMThe German tire manufacturer Continental has announced the construction of a new highly automated finished goods warehouse in Mount Vernon, Illinois. The investments for this project amount to approximately 76 million USD. The warehouse is expected to have a capacity of around 500,000 passenger car tires and will occupy an area of more than six American football fields. Construction is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2026, while commissioning is planned for 2027.
Growth ambitions in North America
Tansu Işık, head of Continental’s tire business in the Americas region, emphasizes that the new warehouse underscores the company’s growth ambitions in North America. „This will increase our delivery speed and flexibility to our customers and further strengthen our regional distribution network,“ explains Işık.
Nik Pearce, plant manager of the Continental tire plant in Mount Vernon, highlights that the planned investment represents a strong signal for the future of the plant. „We are continuously modernizing our processes and making our plant logistics more efficient. At the same time, we are strengthening our activities at the local level and creating new development opportunities for our employees,“ says Pearce.
The plant in Mount Vernon is Continental’s largest tire plant in the USA and plays a central role in the production and supply network for North and South America. Since its opening in 1974, the plant has produced passenger car, van, and commercial vehicle tires. The production area covers more than 320,000 m², and the total production capacity is around 11.4 million tires per year. The site employs over 3,500 employees.
Continental continuously invests in the digitalization and automation of its global production activities, which span 19 tire plants in 16 countries. The focus is on developing new technologies, alternative materials, and environmentally friendly production, as well as continuously improving logistics efficiency.
