BUILDINX in the Sign of the Recovery of the Logistics Real Estate Market
Oct 10, 2024 at 1:49 PMThe Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG continues its growth trajectory and announces a comprehensive expansion of its location in Weiz, Austria. With an expansion of around 20,000 square meters, Craiss is responding to the increasing demands of its technology customer Siemens Energy.
(Mühlacker/Weiz) Since the opening of the “Dedicated Warehouse” in 2021, the logistics company in Weiz, East Styria, has been offering specialized services that go far beyond conventional warehousing logistics. Construction work began with a ceremonial groundbreaking on October 8.
“Our goal is to secure the long-term competitiveness of Siemens Energy while maximizing our own growth potential. Proximity to our customer’s plant allows us to respond quickly and flexibly to their needs and offer tailored logistics solutions,” explains Michael Craiss, Managing Director of Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG. The expansion is expected to be completed by early 2026 and will provide the electrical and energy technology manufacturer with additional production space that cannot be realized at its main plant.
Efficiency Increase and Cost Reduction through Consolidation
The expansion includes approximately 20,000 square meters of warehouse and production space, 10,500 square meters of additional open storage space, and more than 600 square meters of office space. With the enlargement, the company can consolidate its external warehouses, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing costs and emissions. A key advantage of the expansion is the proximity to the rail connection, which is used for both the production site and the logistics center. “With the rail connection, we reduce truck traffic and thus lower CO2 emissions. This is an important step towards more sustainable logistics,” emphasizes Craiss.
Specialized Services for Demanding Technology Customers
In addition to classic warehousing logistics, Craiss Generation Logistik Austria GmbH & Co. KG offers a variety of additional services at the Weiz location. “Our portfolio includes painting, quality controls, and special packaging solutions. These services require highly qualified personnel and in-depth expertise, which we continuously expand,” explains Craiss. The new rail connection will optimize the transport of the partially ton-heavy components that pose special requirements for logistics solutions.
Sustainability and Economic Importance for the Region
The expansion strengthens the economic location of Weiz while also focusing on sustainability. “We are integrating renewable energies such as district heating and photovoltaics into our concept. By concentrating warehouse capacities at one location, we also significantly reduce truck traffic,” explains Craiss. Furthermore, the company is focusing on green technologies at the Weiz location: “To further minimize our ecological footprint, we are investing in electric trucks that will start operating between the production site and the logistics center as early as November this year. Although this initially involves higher costs, we see it as an important step towards improving our environmental balance.” The growth of the customer will create new jobs, with 100 to 120 employees expected to work at the Weiz location in the future.
Weiz as a Strategic Hub
Due to its proximity to Graz, the Managing Director sees the region as strategically advantageous. Additionally, the support of local authorities plays a significant role in the successful implementation of the project. “We see ourselves as a long-term partner for both our customers and the region. The collaboration with local authorities and our customer during the planning phase was extraordinarily cooperative,” emphasizes Craiss.
In the coming years, the company plans further investments in Austria, including in Ebergassing, to support continuous growth. “Our task is to help our customers remain competitive in the global market. Only if they remain strong can we also operate successfully,” concludes Craiss.
