Apr 13, 2026 at 5:27 PMThe PASS Logistics Solutions (PLS) AG has expanded its planning and optimization tool PASS MAPS with new features for route planning of electric vehicles. This development aims to better address the specific challenges associated with the use of electric trucks. A newly integrated forecasting tool enables more accurate range calculations, which are essential for efficient route planning.
Challenges of Electric Vehicle Logistics
The introduction of electric vehicles in logistics brings new requirements for route planning. Logistics companies must consider factors such as limited ranges, charging times, and the specific energy consumption of the vehicles to plan economical and reliable routes. The software solutions PLANTOUR, MAPSERVICES, and PASS MAPS provide comprehensive support for route optimization across various sectors, including logistics, field service, and passenger transport.
With PASS MAPS, planning data can be captured directly in the user interface or imported via Excel. The software allows for quick creation and efficient optimization of routes. A new feature is the integration of electric vehicles into route planning, where vehicle-specific parameters such as state of charge (SoC), state of health (SoH), and load weight are taken into account. This information is combined with route-specific factors such as elevation profiles and speeds along the route. Based on this, the state of charge trajectory for the entire route is calculated to determine whether the distance can be covered without intermediate charging.
Optimized Range Forecasts
For precise planning of routes with electric trucks, PASS has integrated a range prediction (Energy Consumption Prediction) from Robert Bosch GmbH into PASS MAPS. This interface utilizes models that consider vehicle- and battery-specific data, enabling a realistic forecast of energy needs along planned routes. Bosch, as a leading automotive supplier, brings extensive experience and technical system understanding to the development of these forecasts.
Through the automatic analysis of relevant planning parameters, route optimization can calculate suitable routes in a short time. Planners receive reliable plans for electric fleets and can respond flexibly to changes.
Integration of New Requirements into Planning
With the increasing use of electric vehicles, the requirements for operational planning in logistics companies are changing. Aspects such as charging infrastructure, energy consumption, and range must be more strongly integrated into existing planning processes. The new features of PASS MAPS support companies in efficiently incorporating electric fleets into their route planning.
PASS Logistics Solutions offers its software solutions both as cloud-based and on-premises operations from its own data centers in Germany. The execution of compute- and storage-intensive processes in the PASS Cloud enables high scalability and data security while maintaining lower hardware requirements.
