HARIBO relies on electric trucks from Recht Logistik for transport operations
Mar 30, 2026 at 2:26 PMDHL Global Forwarding has expanded its air freight capacities between Asia and Europe by introducing new weekly flights between central logistics hubs. These flights connect Shanghai with Leipzig and Hong Kong with Liège. The measure aims to strengthen the collaboration between DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Express and enhance the company’s ability to serve the growing trade traffic between Asia and Europe.
Expansion of Air Freight Connections
With the start of the summer flight schedule, DHL Global Forwarding will operate weekly rotations with Boeing 777F, providing significant capacity for customers. Henk Venema, Global Head of Air Freight at DHL Global Forwarding, stated that the expansion of controlled capacities in the Asia-Europe corridor underscores the company’s commitment to reliability, speed, and resilience. He pointed out that demand on this trade route continues to grow exceptionally fast, and strengthening the network ensures that customer needs are met.
Leipzig was chosen due to its central role as a significant aviation hub for DHL Express and its strong infrastructure for operational handling. This connection supports DHL’s broader strategy of leveraging its European hubs to maximize efficiency and manage demand peaks, especially during the peak season. The connection between Liège and Hong Kong will have a stopover in Tel Aviv, ensuring reliable and continuous service for customers.
Strategic Collaboration for Value Enhancement
In addition to the new capacities between Asia and Europe, DHL plans further improvements in its intercontinental air network. This includes increased capacity for trans-Pacific flights between Southeast Asia and the USA, which is set to be implemented later this year. Travis Cobb, EVP Global Operations and Aviation at DHL Express, emphasized that this cross-divisional collaboration demonstrates the commitment to supporting global trade flows. By combining the strengths of DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Express, customers benefit from increased reliability, flexibility, and global reach in the supply chain.
The close collaboration between the two divisions enables DHL to offer integrated solutions that complement each other and enhance efficiency across the network.
