Feb 25, 2026 at 12:13 PMThe Goldschmaus Group has optimized its quality control for palletized products at the Garrel and Oldenburg locations by implementing the machine vision solution ZetesMedea ImageID. This technology allows for the capture of barcodes from up to 128 cartons within seconds and verifies item and batch integrity. With this measure, the company aims to increase efficiency and achieve a zero-error target.
Efficient Processes Through Automation
In Garrel, up to 8,400 pallets of frozen goods are processed monthly. Goldschmaus has opted for structured and tamper-proof procedures to ensure the quality of the pallets. The process includes scanning the barcodes of all cartons and matching them with the data stored in the ERP system. Additionally, the weight of the pallet is determined and compared with the calculated weight. ZetesMedea ImageID has automated this previously manual process, leading to a significant increase in efficiency.
Dennis Burke, Managing Director of Goldschmaus, emphasizes: “Zetes immediately understood what we needed and presented us with a suitable solution.” He adds that the new technology has maximized the safety and quality of the control processes. The operation now requires only one worker instead of two to three, allowing for a more efficient use of personnel capacity. The investment is expected to pay off in less than two years.
Automated Weight Determination and Summary Label
During the scanning process, ZetesMedea ImageID determines the weight of the pallet and transmits all relevant information to the ERP system. The result is displayed on a monitor within a short time. When the data is correct, a traffic light signals with a green light, and an automatic summary label is generated. This label is affixed to the pallet, allowing the storage process to continue. If the traffic light does not turn green, it is often due to an irregular packing pattern. In such cases, the pallet must be rotated 90 degrees to scan all sides. ZetesMedea also identifies damaged or obscured labels, which can then be recorded manually.
Overall, Goldschmaus has put three installations of ZetesMedea ImageID into operation at the Garrel and Oldenburg locations. In addition to carton goods, food-safe Euro-standard containers made of HDPE are also scanned. These containers have a separate code that is also captured by the solution and linked to the product code.
Tim Buddemeyer, Operations Manager of Goldschmaus, summarizes the results: “With ZetesMedea, we have achieved a tamper-proof process and our zero-error target. We are very pleased with the overall result.”
