Project DiSTILL Aims to Make Logistics in the Lausitz Transparent
Oct 10, 2023 at 4:53 PMThe Raben Group makes a groundbreaking statement for sustainable logistics practices with the upcoming opening of a new branch near Regensburg in January 2024. The strategically well-located site on the A3 will become a central hub in the European Raben network, ensuring daily connections to all 15 countries of the group, including Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, and Hungary.
(Mannheim/Regensburg) In addition to direct traffic, the location allows for a high-frequency supply of the Southeast European branches with closely timed connections. The new infrastructure of the site, consisting of a 5,000 square meter transshipment hall and a 700 square meter office building, will not only meet the latest DGNB Gold standard but will also be built as a pioneering “zero-emission building.”
The new branch underscores the Raben Group’s clear commitment to environmentally friendly logistics practices and their sustainable development. It is integrated into the Eurohub concept, marking another milestone in Raben’s strategic direction. The consolidation of freight for pan-European line traffic in the Eurohubs eliminates multiple transshipment points, enabling faster transit times while ensuring flexibility for the individual needs of customers. Laszlo Szücs, branch manager of the site, emphasizes the importance for process efficiency: “With the new building in Regensburg, we are addressing this lean and efficient process design and guaranteeing faster and more reliable supply chains. We are closer to the customer and are creating a more resilient network.”
The modern infrastructure of the new branch in Regensburg not only meets the high quality standards of the Raben Group but also provides additional benefits to customers from various industries. The larger transshipment area and the 48 cross docks ensure even more efficient handling of goods for the consumer, automotive, and chemical goods industries.
Building as a Contribution to Climate Neutrality
As part of its sustainability strategy “Eco2Way,” the Raben Group has set ambitious goals to reduce emissions by 2025. The new branch near Regensburg will be constructed as a zero-emission building with photovoltaic panels and heat pumps. The first of its kind was put into operation in December 2022 in Herborn, Hesse. The use of photovoltaic panels and heat pumps reduces emissions for a standard factory facility of 10,000 square meters by 96 percent. “Our vision of climate-neutral logistics is becoming a reality through the introduction of emission-free operations in our transshipment and storage facilities. The use of photovoltaic panels and heat pumps will not only significantly reduce environmental impacts but is also a significant step on our path to a sustainable future,” says Philip Hansen, Head of Sales & Marketing Germany.
Growth and Sustainability Go Hand in Hand
The continuous expansion of the national and European freight network underscores the ongoing growth of the Raben Group. The opening of the new branch in Regensburg is not only a response to increasing demands but also a clear commitment to the principles of sustainability.
