Fires in storage areas pose significant risks
Apr 23, 2026 at 11:32 AMThe Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH has taken an important step in the digitization of its warehouse processes with the introduction of the WAMAS Core WMS. The system, which supports all warehouse operations from day one, was launched at the end of 2024 with the first product segment. The implementation is being carried out in phases to ensure operational continuity and minimize risks during ongoing operations.
Challenges Due to Product Diversity
V-Markt, the consumer market chain of Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH, operates 62 branches and faces increasing demands for efficiency and transparency in logistics due to a growing market and a wide range of products, from fresh goods to frozen products and non-food items. The previous software system of the manual distribution warehouse, covering an area of 55,000 m², reached its limits as the volume and complexity of operations increased. Therefore, a scalable and future-proof solution was necessary.
Choice of WAMAS Core WMS
The decision for WAMAS Core WMS was made due to the powerful features of the software, which provides a variety of standardized processes immediately. This solution is part of the WAMAS entry-level portfolio and is aimed at companies looking to enter digital warehouse logistics. WAMAS Core WMS is specifically designed for manual and semi-automated warehouse environments and covers all warehouse areas, from goods receipt to storage and picking to timely delivery to the branches.
The software is based on the intralogistics expertise of SSI Schäfer and enables a quick transition to stable intralogistical processes. Additionally, the software comes with a complete server infrastructure, supporting a swift implementation.
Iterative Implementation to Mitigate Risks
Given the operational complexity and the wide product range, SSI Schäfer, in collaboration with the project team of Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH, opted for an iterative implementation strategy. The first rollout took place in the frozen food sector, which has a lower turnover frequency. This approach allowed for a controlled introduction of the new software with minimal impact on ongoing operations. Subsequent product categories were migrated step by step, always focusing on maintaining warehouse performance and ensuring product availability for the branches.
The benefits of the solution include comprehensive analysis for adaptation to operational requirements, full transparency of all warehouse processes, user-friendly interfaces, and role-based access for the approximately 250 employees. Furthermore, the software is seamlessly integrated into the existing IT and corporate structure.
Results of the Implementation
The WAMAS Core WMS has already led to improvements in operational processes. Picking errors have been significantly reduced, and order processing times have been shortened. The solution offers the necessary scalability to support future growth both technically and organizationally. V-Markt also benefits from comprehensive support, regular security patches, and updates that ensure long-term system reliability and information security.
