New Construction Volume in the Logistics Market 2025
Apr 21, 2026 at 5:51 PMThe Fiege Group plans to expand its logistics site in Worms. Demolition work on an old logistics hall will begin in May 2026 to make way for a new multi-user center. This will be built next to the existing logistics center on Mainzer Straße and is expected to cover an area of approximately 36,000 m². With the completion of the new center, the total capacity of the site will increase to 91,000 m².
State-of-the-art standards for the new logistics center
The new logistics center will be divided into four units and constructed according to current building and environmental standards. Fiege Real Estate plans to use energy-saving LED lighting as well as an air-to-air heat pump. Additionally, a photovoltaic system with a capacity of 3,680 kilowatt-peak will be installed, meeting the gold standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Nikolaus von Blomberg, Managing Director of Fiege Real Estate, emphasizes the advantages of the large roof areas for photovoltaic use and emission reduction. „By additionally using energy storage systems, we aim to develop our properties into small, sustainable power plants in the long term,“ says von Blomberg.
Optimal transport connections as a location advantage
The site in Worms benefits from favorable transport connections, which are significant for logistics. Philipp Staiger, Director of Operations for the Fiege Cluster Rhein/Main, highlights that the dense highway network, important rail corridors for freight transport, and proximity to the port in Mannheim as well as Frankfurt Airport make Worms an ideal hub for national and international logistics flows. These factors were crucial in the decision to invest in Worms and expand the site.
Additionally, the floor of the new multi-user center will be sealed with a WGK-3 foil to ensure the protection of soil and groundwater and to allow for hazardous material storage. The completion of the new logistics center is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
