Market for German logistics real estate robust
Apr 15, 2026 at 11:15 AMThe LIFE Facilitating Intermodal Transport (LIFE FIT) project aims to optimize freight transport in Europe and reduce associated emissions. With a total budget of 3.4 million euros, of which 1.87 million euros were co-financed by the EU, the project has made progress according to the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment. Freight transport has been shifted to rail in 32 countries, resulting in savings of 115,000 liters of diesel while simultaneously lowering costs for the participating companies.
Digital platform for intermodal transport
At the heart of the project is a digital platform that enables freight forwarders to book intermodal transport solutions. According to the Executive Agency, this platform has helped increase the competitiveness of rail compared to road transport. Rail-Flow, the company behind the LIFE FIT project, is based in Germany and currently employs over 170 staff. The company operates in 32 countries and achieved a revenue of 10 million euros in 2025.
The recent „Series A“ funding round, completed in December 2025, raised 12.5 million euros. This type of financing represents the first major external investment according to the agency. Rail-Flow plans to use these funds to further scale its business.
