Loxxess establishes PharmaXnet network for pharmaceutical logistics
Apr 15, 2026 at 1:19 PMThe German trailer manufacturer Kässbohrer recently delivered 75 Ferry refrigerated trailers to Smyril Line, based in the Faroe Islands, a company that offers ferry and Ro-Ro transport services between the North Atlantic and the European mainland. The handover took place in Goch, Germany, and was attended by several executives from both companies, including Halgir Dahl Olesen and René Dahl Olesen from Smyril Line, as well as Mehmet Önen from Kässbohrer.
Smyril Line has been operating in the North Atlantic for 40 years and plays a crucial role in regional supply chains that operate under challenging maritime and climatic conditions. The company provides specialized logistics solutions for a variety of goods, including fresh and frozen products as well as heavy and oversized cargo. The use of Ro-Ro ships allows for direct loading between the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Denmark, and the Netherlands, ensuring the transport of everyday retail goods to complex industrial equipment.
With the new delivery, Smyril Line now has more than 200 Kässbohrer units in its fleet, including 80 refrigerated trailers. This fleet was initially built with five Ferry reefer units, whose performance has been tested under demanding conditions over the past five years. In addition to the refrigerated trailers, Smyril Line also operates over 100 other Kässbohrer trailers for heavy and oversized transport.
Frodi B. Poulsen, Equipment Manager at Smyril Line, spoke positively about the experiences with Kässbohrer vehicles so far. He emphasized the robustness and reliability of the refrigerated trailers, which are used under extreme conditions. These characteristics are crucial for transport on the often rough routes of the North Atlantic. The new 75 Ferry reefers are specifically equipped for the requirements of fish transport, including integrated fish water tanks and drainage systems that ensure hygienic handling during transport.
Mehmet Önen, Head of Key Account Management at Kässbohrer, stated that the company is proud to support Smyril Line with their transport needs. He highlighted that the refrigerated trailers have been optimized through targeted adjustments for the specific requirements of the company. These adjustments include improved insulation and advanced air circulation design, which ensure a constant cold chain.
The delivered refrigerated trailers are characterized by high structural durability and thermal performance. The robust floor of the trailers is designed for intensive loading and unloading operations, increasing efficiency during port operations. Kässbohrer thanks Smyril Line for their trust and looks forward to a continued successful partnership.
