Medlog JV opens cold storage in Shanghai
Mar 16, 2026 at 5:30 PMTGW Logistics has installed a SmartPocket system for the online retailer Personalshop in Polling, Tyrol. This innovative pocket sorting system celebrates its world premiere in a customer project and differs from conventional solutions by utilizing autonomous mobile robots instead of conveyor belts. The technology aims to set new standards in efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Servus Handels- und Verlags-Gesellschaft m.b.H., operating under the Personalshop brand, is an internationally active retailer of branded clothing and accessories. The company sells its products through online shops, catalogs, and physical stores, employing more than 400 staff members. In addition to Austria, Personalshop is also active in Germany and Switzerland. In 2024, the omnichannel specialist achieved a revenue of 275 million euros and served over two million customers.
Expansion of the Fulfillment Center
TGW Logistics had already implemented a highly automated fulfillment center for Personalshop in Polling in 2018. Due to strong growth, the online retailer has now opted for an expansion to continue delivering quickly and reliably to both online customers and stores. The requirements included optimal performance in order processing with a 70 percent higher volume while maintaining high reliability and a low initial investment. In the awarding process, the SmartPocket system impressed with its technological concept as well as its cost-effectiveness and short implementation times.
Technical Details and Advantages
The SmartPocket system operates in a 2.5-kilometer long rail network, which contains no moving parts. This design significantly reduces maintenance efforts and minimizes energy consumption. The system’s pockets are automatically opened and ergonomically presented, with each pocket receiving exactly one item. An integrated camera automatically detects whether the pocket has been loaded, eliminating the need for a separate scanning process. The scope of supply also includes loading and unloading stations, conveyor technology, as well as box erectors and closers. TGW Logistics also handles the IT integration into the existing system.
Martin Waldenberger, Chief Sales Officer of the Customer Unit Central Europe at TGW Logistics, commented on the advantages of the SmartPocket system: “Conventional pocket sorters are designed to handle peak loads. Outside of these peak times, much potential remains untapped. SmartPocket, on the other hand, grows with the individual business development thanks to its simple scalability and flexibly adapts to changing conditions.” This leads to significant advantages in the initial investment.
