7R expands with 200 million euros
Mar 10, 2026 at 9:00 AMThe training workshops of the IHK Akademie Schwaben have consolidated their classical vocational-technical training in a new Competence Center for Metal in Neu-Ulm. The relocation of the two previous sites was carried out by the service provider HARDER logistics. A particular challenge was the tight timeframe of just ten days during which ongoing training operations had to be maintained.
The move required transporting the entire inventory of the training workshops. This included over 30 machines, each weighing between one and five tons, as well as material cabinets, raw materials, and office equipment. Wolfgang Gollmann, head of the Academy Campus Neu-Ulm, emphasizes the importance of a smooth process: “In addition to the safe and professional handling of the high-quality machines, it was crucial to minimize the impact on ongoing training and qualification measures. We currently support nearly 50 participants.”
Relocation in Two Stages
The relocation of the training workshops took place in two stages. The first external location on Baumgartenstraße was already transferred to the new Competence Center on Finninger Straße in December of the previous year. In the last ten days, the move of the second location on Heinz-Rühmann-Straße followed, which was particularly time-critical and logistically demanding.
Additional challenges arose from the structural conditions. The training workshops were located in a three-story building, with about 40 percent of the facilities housed in the basement. Andreas Hermann, project manager at HARDER logistics, explains the approach: “We loaded this area directly onto the special vehicle with a special loading crane from the light well. This allowed us to avoid disassembling machines or multiple reloading. A detailed schedule and close collaboration with the IHK officials significantly contributed to our success in completing the project within the tight timeline.” Five employees and special equipment were involved in the implementation.
Since March 9, the training workshop in the new Competence Center for Metal at Finninger Straße 46 has been available again for IHK students. Gollmann draws a positive conclusion: “By consolidating our decentralized and historically grown structure, we have succeeded in positioning ourselves securely and consistently for the future. The new concept impresses with modern facilities, short distances, and creates optimal conditions for instructors and participants.”
