PackSynergy: Wolf new CEO
Mar 6, 2026 at 2:01 PMThe Rostock City Council has signaled clear support for pipe manufacturer EEW in the overseas port with its latest vote. All factions have expressed their approval for initiating planning steps to expand the facility. This decision comes at a time when the long-discussed port expansion is progressing only slowly. Currently, land use claims are under discussion, which, although associated with significant resistance, are deemed necessary.
Securing the existence of EEW is considered a priority. Furthermore, the conditions for further development of the areas must be established promptly. In this context, discussions regarding land preservation in the port development areas „Rostock Seaport East“ and „Rostock Seaport West“ are referenced. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT, commented on the challenges: „With the second draft of the regional plan, a painful compromise for the port economy has been developed, which is currently being reviewed by the planning association and is to be presented to the association assembly for final approval. The included renunciation of the Oldendorfer Tannen and the Peezer Bach is significant for port development, but still acceptable.“
Importance of Land Use Planning
Jens Scharner, also Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT, emphasized the urgency of approving this compromise in the association assembly and implementing the land framework promptly in the land use planning of the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock. „For a port, it is essential that not only areas in the hinterland are available, but also that access to deep-sea water is ensured,“ said Scharner. ROSTOCK PORT therefore appeals to the factions of the city council to realize this compromise within the framework of construction planning.
The developments in the Rostock overseas port are thus in focus, as they not only affect the economic stability of the company EEW but also the entire port infrastructure and its future use.
