Turkish Cargo bypasses Linz
Mar 5, 2026 at 11:33 AMThomas Schürmann (left) will take over as Managing Director of Frankfurt Cargo Services (FCS) in April, a subsidiary of Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a company of the SATS Group. Schürmann brings over 20 years of experience in international management and air freight logistics. Previously, he served as Head of Cargo Operations and Deliveries at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi.
The current Managing Director of FCS, Claus Wagner (right), will remain with the company and take over the management of the Frankfurt branch of WFS. In this role, he will drive the development of services in the areas of freight forwarding and e-commerce. Wagner has led FCS since 2019 and has successfully expanded its position as the largest independent air freight handler at Frankfurt Airport.
Experience and Future Direction
Thomas Schürmann was most recently responsible for Etihad’s global cargo operations at over 80 international passenger and cargo stations. His experiences at Etihad, as well as previously at Düsseldorf Airport Cargo GmbH, will enable him to combine expertise in aviation and ground handling to position FCS for the future. A strong customer focus will play a central role in this.
Claus Wagner, who has over 30 years of experience in logistics, will now leverage his knowledge to expand WFS’s cargo and e-commerce activities in Frankfurt. In January, WFS commenced operations in two warehouses and two office buildings on a 24,000 m² site within the Cargo City South of the airport. These facilities have the capacity to handle approximately 100,000 tons of import and export freight annually for e-commerce and freight forwarding companies.
John Batten, CEO of WFS for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia (EMEAA), commented on the new appointments: “With the appointment of Thomas Schürmann, we have significantly strengthened our already excellent team in Frankfurt and are well positioned to achieve our ambitious goals at this important cargo hub.” Batten also expressed his pleasure that Claus Wagner will remain in his new role as Managing Director of WFS Frankfurt and emphasized that he is confident Wagner is the right person to drive the new business in freight forwarding and e-commerce in Frankfurt forward.
