Feb 20, 2026 at 10:34 AMAs part of a delegation trip by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to India, representatives of the port industry have intensified cooperation with partners in Chennai and Mumbai, as reported by the Port of Hamburg. The trip aimed to strengthen trade relations between Hamburg and India, particularly in the context of the free trade agreement between the European Union and India. Discussions in New Delhi took place with the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways as well as Invest India.
The delegation was led by Dr. Melanie Leonhard, the Senator for Economic Affairs, Labor and Innovation. Members included Jens Meier, CEO of the Hamburg Port Authority and President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors, as well as Hendrik Meyn, Board Member of Hafen Hamburg Marketing.
Focus on Climate-Neutral Port Development
A central topic of the discussions was, according to the Port of Hamburg, the development of climate-neutral port strategies. In a conversation with the Mumbai Port Authority, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, and the Indian Ports Association, experiences from Hamburg were exchanged, including in the area of shore power facilities.
