Descartes Study “Sustainable Deliveries Under Scrutiny”
Oct 10, 2024 at 2:44 PMThe JadeWeserPort has gained a significant new partner: A subsidiary of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group, operator of the world’s largest port by total throughput, has settled in JadeWeserPort. As the first tenant of the new logistics center in the freight transport center (GVZ), this commitment sends a strong signal for the strategic importance of Germany’s only container deep-water port as a European logistics hub.
(Wilhelmshaven/Ningbo) Marc-Oliver Hauswald, Managing Director of Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven JadeWeserPort-Marketing GmbH & Co. KG, states: “We congratulate P3 Logistic Parks, the landlord of the 31,700 square meter logistics area, and Zhejiang Seaport (Germany) Supply Chain Management on this milestone. The contract signing underscores the growing importance of JadeWeserPort as a central hub in international trade.”
Sönke Kewitz, Managing Director of P3 Germany: “The establishment of Zhejiang Seaport is a strong signal for JadeWeserPort and the entire region. With this project, we are not only creating new jobs but also strengthening Germany’s role as a hub in international goods traffic. We are proud to support the company in expanding its European activities.”
Global top ports like Ningbo Zhoushan, thanks to this partnership, will market JadeWeserPort as a “Sister Port” by the parent company Zhejiang Seaport. This positions it on par with Antwerp and Houston. Hauswald adds: “Our Chinese partners are pursuing a long-term strategy and see the enormous potential of JadeWeserPort to develop into the leading European transshipment point for Asian goods. In the future, the port could also play a key role in trade with America.”
Zhejiang Seaport plans to expand its presence in JadeWeserPort as part of the new Silk Road. The goal: to further develop the flow of goods between China and Europe and to strengthen economic relations in the long term. The location decision is based not only on the excellent hinterland connections and the availability of logistics areas but also on the growing importance of Wilhelmshaven as Germany’s future energy hub. The favorable energy conditions make the location attractive for international companies looking to settle there and expand their production.
Collaboration will be further intensified in 2025
From 2025, the collaboration between JadeWeserPort and China will be further intensified: On one hand, Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk plan to introduce the new line NE1 as part of the Gemini Cooperation, which will create a direct shipping route between Wilhelmshaven and Ningbo. On the other hand, Ningbo Ports plans to realize transfer times of 26 days with its own direct connections to Wilhelmshaven. These services will sustainably strengthen the logistical connection between Europe and China and open up new growth opportunities for JadeWeserPort.
