Dalla sua apertura, il tunnel ha notevolmente cambiato le connessioni nord-sud in Svizzera e in Europa, in particolare sull&#8217;asse del traffico merci Genova-Rotterdam. Insieme al tunnel di base del Ceneri, entrato in funzione nel 2020, e al tunnel di base del L\u00f6tschberg, il GBT costituisce l&#8217;elemento centrale della nuova trasversale ferroviaria alpina (NEAT). Il tunnel ha stabilito standard nei settori dell&#8217;innovazione, della precisione e dell&#8217;affidabilit\u00e0, consentendo un tracciato pi\u00f9 pianeggiante attraverso le Alpi, contribuendo cos\u00ec a un traffico pi\u00f9 efficiente.<\/p>\n<h3>Numeri e fatti sul funzionamento del tunnel<\/h3>\n<p>Dalla sua apertura, oltre 276.000 treni merci e 169.000 treni passeggeri hanno attraversato il tunnel di base del Gottardo. Vincent Ducrot, CEO delle SBB, ha dichiarato in occasione del decimo anniversario: &#8222;Oggi voglio ringraziare tutti coloro che hanno contribuito alla costruzione di quest&#8217;opera monumentale. Negli ultimi dieci anni, il tunnel ha cambiato il traffico transalpino e rafforzato l&#8217;asse nord-sud europeo.&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;entrata in funzione del tunnel di base del Ceneri ha ulteriormente migliorato la connessione tra l&#8217;Europa del Nord e quella del Sud. I tempi di percorrenza in Ticino sono stati notevolmente ridotti grazie all&#8217;introduzione di una nuova linea S-Bahn, cos\u00ec che il viaggio da Zurigo a Lugano ora dura meno di due ore. La domanda nel traffico passeggeri sull&#8217;asse del Gottardo \u00e8 quasi raddoppiata, e da quasi due anni un treno circola in entrambe le direzioni ogni 30 minuti. Le SBB adeguano le capacit\u00e0 se necessario per soddisfare le crescenti esigenze, in particolare nei fine settimana festivi.<\/p>\n<h3>Efficienza nel traffico merci<\/h3>\n<p>La NEAT ha anche ottimizzato il traffico merci, offrendo un tracciato quasi pianeggiante sotto le Alpi. Questo consente treni pi\u00f9 veloci con pi\u00f9 vagoni e carichi pi\u00f9 pesanti rispetto al vecchio tracciato montano. Il volume di trasporto sull&#8217;asse del Gottardo \u00e8 aumentato, e il trasferimento del traffico merci dalla strada alla ferrovia \u00e8 in corso. Tuttavia, c&#8217;\u00e8 ancora potenziale di sviluppo, poich\u00e9 attualmente viene utilizzata solo una parte della capacit\u00e0. Sfruttare completamente le capacit\u00e0 \u00e8 fondamentale per intensificare il trasferimento del traffico e alleviare il traffico stradale.<\/p>\n<p>Il vecchio tracciato montano del 1882 rimane anch&#8217;esso significativo, poich\u00e9 garantisce collegamenti regionali. Ogni giorno circa 1.400 passeggeri utilizzano i &#8222;Treni Gottardo&#8220; della S\u00fcdostbahn (SOB). Questo tracciato panoramico offre non solo un percorso alternativo in caso di chiusura del tunnel di base del Gottardo, ma anche un&#8217;attrazione turistica che pu\u00f2 essere esplorata con il Gotthard Panorama Express.<\/p>\n<h3>Investimenti nell&#8217;infrastruttura<\/h3>\n<p>Per mantenere la capacit\u00e0 del tunnel di base del Gottardo, le SBB investono annualmente circa 35 milioni di franchi nella manutenzione. L&#8217;elevato volume di traffico porta a usura dei freni e depositi di metallo dovuti all&#8217;usura, che vengono rimossi con sistemi di pulizia robotizzati. Inoltre, le SBB monitorano continuamente i binari e le strutture con strumenti di misurazione ad alta precisione. Oltre ai lavori di manutenzione notturni ogni fine settimana, sono necessari anche periodi di lavoro pi\u00f9 lunghi, ad esempio per il sistema di comunicazione del tunnel, che deve essere sostituito entro il 2027. Queste misure sono necessarie per garantire che il tunnel funzioni in modo sicuro e fluido anche in futuro.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbb.ch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener
