The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, in collaboration with Delta Charge, a German-Swedish company specializing in charging and battery storage solutions for logistics and industrial companies in Europe, has opened a new charging and energy depot for its electric truck fleet. This facility, located at the brewery’s logistics center in Freising near Munich, represents a complete electrification of the charging infrastructure and positions Weihenstephan as one of the first major breweries in Germany to operate a battery-supported fast charging hub.<\/p>\n

Integration of renewable energies<\/h3>\n

The newly constructed logistics center is designed as an integrated energy solution. It includes two ceiling-mounted 150 kW fast charging stations supported by a modular battery storage system. This system has an initial capacity of 125 kW\/257 kWh and can be expanded to 375 kW\/771 kWh to keep pace with the growth of the electric fleet. Additionally, the existing 380 kWp photovoltaic system at the site will be integrated into the system.<\/p>\n

A central element of the project is the AI-supported energy management system from Delta Charge. This system continuously optimizes the interaction of solar energy, battery storage, and charging processes to reduce dependence on the power grid and lower electricity costs. According to Delta Charge, this system not only enables the operation of electric trucks but also makes them more cost-effective than diesel trucks over their entire lifecycle.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Josef Schr\u00e4dler, Director of the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, emphasizes the company’s responsibility towards the region and future generations. „The electrification of our fleet is a natural expression of this responsibility and a concrete step on our path to complete decarbonization,“ he explains.<\/p>\n

Role model in climate protection<\/h3>\n

The transition to electromobility is seen as a significant step in Weihenstephan’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. Robert Winkler, Director of the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection, highlights that the state brewery has taken an exemplary path with its integrated energy concept. He hopes that many companies will follow this example.<\/p>\n

The logistics center of Weihenstephan combines two significant trends: the rapid adoption of electric trucks and the increasing importance of stationary battery storage. These developments not only contribute to cost reduction but also enhance independence and resilience against grid fluctuations and rising energy prices.<\/p>\n

Johannes Kirnberger, Managing Director of Delta Charge, speaks positively about the project:<\/p>\n
