Around 250 professionals from industry, logistics, science, and politics gathered in Cologne yesterday evening for the fourth „Logistics Dialogue Rhineland“ to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the current economic situation. The event was organized by HGK Logistics and Intermodal GmbH (HGK LI) and specifically addressed the role of logistics in times of unstable supply chains and geopolitical tensions.<\/p>\n

Logistics as a Strategic Partner<\/h3>\n

In his opening speech, Markus Kr\u00e4mer (photo), CEO of HGK LI, emphasized the necessity of closer collaboration between industry and logistics. He called for an „end to the distance“ between these two areas and highlighted that it is no longer sufficient to work efficiently alone. „We need to become resilient. For that, we need a new understanding of logistics: as a partner on equal footing. The key lies in joint action,“ said Kr\u00e4mer.<\/p>\n

The economic challenges were also addressed by Prof. Dr. Torsten Schmidt from the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research. In his keynote, he outlined the economic difficulties while simultaneously identifying points for future growth. „We are in a difficult phase, but we can find our way out. The prerequisite is that productivity in Germany increases,“ explained Schmidt, calling for more investments in infrastructure and a reduction in consumer spending.<\/p>\n

Discussion on Resilience and Framework Conditions<\/h3>\n

In a subsequent panel discussion moderated by Gesa Eberl from NTV, experts from business, science, and politics exchanged views on the necessity of changing collaboration between companies to become more resilient. Participants included Dr. Sebastian C. Schulte, CEO of Deutz AG, and Dr. Nicole Gr\u00fcnewald, head of the IHK K\u00f6ln. Schulte emphasized the growing importance of logistics for companies and society: „Logistics is a strategic asset for companies.“<\/p>\n

A central outcome of the discussion was the call for an adjustment of the framework conditions in Germany and the EU to strengthen the economic location. High energy prices and complex regulations were identified as obstacles. Deutz CEO Schulte called for more courage and confidence in the German economy: „As an athlete, you also start to win. We can achieve so much more!“<\/p>\n

Initiative to Promote Young Talent and Innovations<\/h3>\n

Finally, Markus Kr\u00e4mer announced the introduction of a nationwide „Logistics Award,“ which will be organized in collaboration with partners. This award is aimed at students in logistics-related degree programs and is intended to recognize innovative scientific work on topics such as multimodality, sustainability, and modern supply chains. The goal is to promote the development of intermodal concepts and support the shift of goods flows to rail and waterways.<\/p>\n

The event also provided participants with the opportunity to deepen discussions and establish new contacts during a subsequent get-together.<\/p>\n
