At the BGL Political Arena 2026 in Berlin, representatives of the road freight transport sector addressed their concerns directly to decision-makers from the federal government, the Bundestag, and the Federal Highway Company. The central message from the entrepreneurs was that small and medium-sized enterprises are under significant economic pressure and urgently need concrete relief and reliable framework conditions.<\/p>\n

The focus of the discussions was on the economic situation of many businesses, the reduction of bureaucracy, the driver shortage, and the financing of road infrastructure in the context of climate protection measures. Persistently high diesel prices, the double burden of CO\u2082 costs at the pump and in tolls, as well as rising overall costs, are exacerbating the challenges for many companies. The entrepreneurs pointed out that the competitive conditions in the European market are further deteriorating as a result.<\/p>\n

„The road freight transport sector is under massive economic pressure. Now, small and medium-sized enterprises need political decisions that actually have an impact in everyday operations,“ stated Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt, spokesperson of the BGL.<\/p>\n

Demands for Concrete Measures<\/h3>\n

During a roundtable on infrastructure, Dr. Michael G\u00fcntner from the Federal Highway Company emphasized that the maintenance of road infrastructure is a central challenge. In the subsequent panel discussion, the entrepreneurs expressed their expectations of politics. They demanded fair competitive conditions, noticeable relief in costs and bureaucracy, as well as reliable framework conditions for the sector’s transformation.<\/p>\n

The BGL reiterated its demand for faster and practical measures that genuinely assist companies and facilitate access to the profession. Furthermore, the association renewed its position that revenues from the truck toll should be consistently reinvested in the maintenance, renovation, and expansion of existing roads, as well as in additional truck parking spaces and the prerequisites for a climate-friendly transformation of road freight transport.<\/p>\n

The BGL Political Arena 2026 has thus made it clear that the medium-sized road freight transport sector expects not just announcements from politics, but concrete decisions.<\/p>\n
