Dachser and Fraunhofer IML were awarded the European Logistics Association (ELA) Award for their jointly developed Digital Twin @ILO. The award ceremony took place on February 19, 2026, in Vienna. The ELA Award recognizes innovative projects and outstanding achievements in logistics and supply chain management and is presented by a coalition of national logistics associations from Europe and beyond. In 2023, @ILO already received the German Logistics Award from the Federal Association of Logistics (BVL).<\/p>\n

Technology and Application of @ILO<\/h3>\n

The Digital Twin @ILO creates an automated, digital representation of all packages, assets, and processes in the transshipment warehouse. This information is clearly displayed to employees on mobile devices and screens, increasing transparency and reducing process times in the warehouse. Customers also benefit from the technology as they receive more accurate information about their shipments. @ILO is the result of years of research at the Dachser Enterprise Lab, where experts from Dachser and researchers from Fraunhofer IML work in small agile teams on innovations for the European general cargo network. After the introduction of @ILO in two pilot facilities, the technology is now being used at nine additional Dachser locations. By the end of 2026, up to ten additional branches are planned, with the goal of integrating over 100 locations into the European Dachser network in the long term.<\/p>\n

„We are very pleased with the renewed recognition of our innovation in general cargo logistics. With @ILO, we achieve a new level of transparency in the supply chain,“ said Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) at Dachser. He emphasized that the „Dachser Future Terminal“ in conjunction with @ILO represents one of the most extensive research projects of the Dachser Enterprise Lab and is a significant investment in the company’s digitalization. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alice Kirchheim, head of the Fraunhofer IML Institute, added that @ILO is the result of a long-standing collaboration between the two institutions and demonstrates how jointly developed innovations can improve everyday logistics.<\/p>\n

Efficiency Improvements through @ILO<\/h3>\n

The introduction of @ILO has led to significant efficiency improvements in the processes between goods receipt and goods dispatch. In 2025, over four million manual barcode scans were already saved in the eleven existing @ILO branches. Additionally, the daily manual inventory of all packages is eliminated, and pallets can be located in real-time. This enables local transport vehicles to start deliveries more quickly, saving drivers valuable time in traffic.<\/p>\n
