With a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, BLG LOGISTICS, together with partners, celebrated the start of construction for a large-scale roofing of parking spaces with photovoltaic modules at the AutoTerminal Kelheim. The solar ports will generate around 23 megawatts of renewable energy in the future.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Bremen\/Kelheim) Last Wednesday, Axel Krichel, member of the board & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BLG LOGISTICS, together with the chairman of the association of ports in the district of Kelheim, district administrator Martin Neumeyer, the managing director of the association, the mayors of Kelheim and Saal, and the project developer SOLEA, commenced the construction of a sustainable roofing for 10,000 parking spaces at the BLG AutoTerminal in Kelheim.<\/p>\n

Around 53,000 photovoltaic modules with a capacity of over 23 megawatts peak will be installed on the site of the so-called “Hopfenfeld.” The project is being realized in collaboration with SOLEA, an experienced specialist in large-scale PV systems. The site has been utilizing PV power since 2019.<\/p>\n

Central Hub in the Network<\/h5>\n

Axel Krichel emphasizes the strategic importance of the project: “Kelheim is much more than just a location for us: it is a central hub in our network of sustainable logistics solutions \u2013 connected by three modes of transport, highly automated, and customer-oriented. BLG LOGISTICS is one of the largest employers in Kelheim. This investment is a positive signal for the location.”<\/p>\n

The AutoTerminal Kelheim is one of the most significant inland ports for vehicle handling. On a total area of 550,000 square meters, around 300 employees process vehicles delivered by ship, rail, and truck from Hungary, Slovakia, the Adriatic ports, and southern Germany. The technical equipment on site enables washing and repair processes as well as market-specific configurations.<\/p>\n

Bridge Between Sustainability and Economic Efficiency<\/h5>\n

Site manager G\u00f6rgen Brockbalz is convinced: “This flagship project bridges the gap between sustainability and economic efficiency. The solar ports not only generate green electricity, but they also create around 10,000 covered parking spaces that protect our customers’ high-quality products from weather influences.”<\/p>\n
