The new parking space information service (SID) will make it significantly easier for truck drivers in Germany to find parking: From now on, the system provides real-time data on the occupancy of truck parking spaces at highway rest areas \u2013 directly from the toll system to the Federal Mobility Library.<\/h5>\n

(Berlin) Patrick Schnieder, Federal Minister for Transport: “Our logistics professionals do a great job every day. For that, they also need sufficient breaks and safe parking spaces. With the parking space information service, we will optimize the utilization of existing truck parking areas and create more transparency through digital technology.”<\/p>\n

At the start of the pilot phase, the SID, developed jointly by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV), the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), and Toll Collect, already covers more than half of the approximately 1,900 public rest areas on German highways. The occupancy data is determined almost in real-time and made publicly available \u2013 a real gain for traffic safety, driving personnel, and the logistics industry as a whole.<\/p>\n

“An important milestone has been reached,” says Mark Erichsen, CEO of Toll Collect. “By the end of the year, we will integrate all remaining public rest areas on the highways. In 2026, the gradual integration of occupancy data from private parking providers, such as truck stops, will also begin. This will show additional alternatives for truck parking near highways.”<\/p>\n

Capturing parking options in real-time<\/h5>\n

Christian Hoffmann, President of the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility: “With the help of the parking space information service, the occupancy status of truck parking options at rest areas on the highways can be systematically determined nationwide based on position data and transmitted almost in real-time. This service reduces search traffic from trucks, facilitates compliance with driving and rest times, and increases the safety of all road users.”<\/p>\n

The SID is the first central data service that uniformly captures and makes publicly accessible information on truck parking spaces throughout the German highway network based on data from the truck toll system. Providers of truck navigation applications can access the data and incorporate it into their own applications. This way, truck drivers will be able to retrieve the occupancy of truck parking options in the truck cockpit and use it early for parking searches.<\/p>\n

The parking space information service is part of the 5-point plan of the BMV to improve the parking situation for trucks.<\/p>\n
