However, this is precisely where a bottleneck threatens: Over the past 25 years, numerous parking and dispatch tracks, train formation facilities, and workshops for rail freight transport have been drastically reduced and partially decommissioned. The result: bottlenecks in operational processes, limited flexibility, and a jeopardized modal shift from road to rail.<\/p>\n<p>With the general renovation of the high-performance network initiated in 2024 by the federal government and Deutsche Bahn, investments in the rail network will be made comprehensively for the first time \u2013 an important step. However, from the industry&#8217;s perspective, this is not enough: The alliance &#8220;Every Meter Counts,&#8221; initiated by the industry, calls for a rethink in infrastructure policy. There is an urgent need for more &#8220;parking spaces on the rail&#8221; \u2013 that is, new parking and dispatch tracks as well as functional workshops \u2013 so that rail freight transport remains future-proof and can contribute to the climate transition.
