At the same time, the association emphasizes: The importance of maritime shipping for Germany&#8217;s economic strength and supply security must be brought more into political focus.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>(Hamburg) &#8220;Without a strong maritime economy, there is no reliable supply and no robust economy,&#8221; explains VDR President Gaby Bornheim. &#8220;Anyone who seriously wants to strengthen Germany&#8217;s resilience must not treat shipping as a marginal issue \u2013 it is the backbone of our export nation, a guarantor of stable supply chains, and essential for the industrial location.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shipping is much more than transport: it secures basic supply, contributes to crisis resilience, and creates strategic independence. Especially in times of increasing geopolitical tensions and global uncertainties, it is clear: stable sea routes and a competitive merchant fleet are not a given, but a strategic necessity.<\/p>\n<h5>Targeted Strengthening of Infrastructure<\/h5>\n<p>&#8220;Germany must specifically strengthen its maritime infrastructure and protect its interests at sea,&#8221; demands VDR Managing Director Martin Kr\u00f6ger. &#8220;Around 62 percent of all German exports and 60 percent of imports are handled by sea \u2013 this shows how much our economy depends on shipping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Only with a competitive, independent merchant fleet can industry and the population be reliably supplied even in times of crisis.
