BASF Coatings, a leading partner for innovative surface solutions, and Koch International, an international logistics service provider based in Osnabr\u00fcck, have successfully tested the use of electric trucks for long-distance transport and have now implemented this sustainable transport solution at BASF Coatings for long-haul transport.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(M\u00fcnster\/Osnabr\u00fcck) These efforts are part of the chemical company’s broad sustainability philosophy to focus on innovative solutions for a sustainable future along the entire value chain.<\/p>\n

A series of tests conducted beforehand and the resulting data laid the foundation for the decision. Special attention was paid to the design for long-distance transport and the equipment with the latest technology during the vehicle selection process. More than 10,000 km were covered during the test series, transporting over 2,000 tons of cargo. The testing took place over a period of four weeks. The final analysis and evaluation included factors such as range, charging times, and energy consumption.<\/p>\n

Less Energy, Less CO2, Lower Costs<\/strong><\/h5>\n

During the test period, it became evident that the average energy consumption of the electric truck led to a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the diesel truck. Additionally, the fuel requirements were significantly lower than those of comparable diesel variants. Beyond the efficiency and ecological advantages, economic benefits in operating costs were also realized. The identified efficiency advantages could even be further improved after entering the implementation phase.<\/p>\n

“The results of our pioneering test between our three German locations on long distances clearly showed that electric trucks represent a promising solution along our entire value chain and that operational handling is already possible today. In light of further developments regarding charging infrastructure and truck technology, it is only consistent that we have adopted this practice into regular operations, thereby already reducing CO2 emissions in plant-to-plant transport today,” says Victor Kaupe, Head of Regional Transport Management & Logistics EMEA at BASF Coatings. “The available data, particularly regarding the range and energy consumption of the electric trucks, is convincing. The vehicles thus make a significant contribution to sustainability \u2013 both for us and our partners. The results reinforce our commitment to the continuous integration of electric vehicles into our fleet,” adds Peter Hayn, Team Lead Fleet Management at Koch International.<\/p>\n

Building on Positive Results<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Both companies plan to build on the positive results. This includes, among other things, the deployment of more trucks, the inclusion of additional European locations, and the expansion of charging infrastructures at the sites.<\/p>\n
