(W\u00f6rth am Rhein) The establishment of the fast charging park at the W\u00f6rth site is an important milestone for further electrification in road freight transport: Mercedes-Benz Trucks is also relying on electric trucks in its own supply chain and aims to fully electrify the delivery traffic to the largest truck plant by the end of 2026. Since the beginning of the project, 20 percent of the deliveries of production materials directly commissioned by Daimler Truck have already been electrified. An integral part of the future inbound logistics concept of Mercedes-Benz Trucks for emission-free delivery traffic is also the establishment of an in-house charging infrastructure at the W\u00f6rth site. This is another application example of the offerings from the Daimler Truck brand TruckCharge, which includes topics such as consulting, infrastructure, and operations related to e-infrastructure and the charging of electric trucks.<\/p>\n
The establishment of an in-house charging infrastructure ensures that freight forwarders can charge their electric trucks during waiting and unloading times. Eight charging stations have already been installed and put into operation on the plant premises in W\u00f6rth. This offering is now complemented by the new fast charging park with six additional charging stations, with the possibility of expanding by two more charging stations to meet future megawatt charging needs. The new fast charging stations are located in close proximity to the plant entrance at Gate 2, through which the delivery traffic enters the W\u00f6rth plant.<\/p>\n
Andreas Bachhofer: “Of the eight planned TruckCharge charging stations, six fast charging stations with 400 kW are now in operation, which will supply power to the trucks during their downtime in the truck waiting area. Additional charging stations are planned at key locations for delivery traffic in close proximity to production at the W\u00f6rth plant. The charging process can thus take place during loading and unloading, making the goods delivery to the plant highly efficient.”<\/p>\n
Steffen Wei\u00df: “For the city of W\u00f6rth am Rhein, this fast charging park has a signaling effect. While for many citizens, new vehicles fueled with diesel from the plant have been a familiar sight around our gas stations for years, the ‘refueling process’ in the age of electromobility is now increasingly being shifted to the plant.”<\/p>\n
For the power supply of the high-performance fast charging stations, a new transformer station with a capacity of 6 megawatts has been established in addition to the TruckCharge charging stations. This is connected to the plant network via a new 20,000-volt high-voltage line.<\/p>\n
Since 2022, there has already been a charging park for customers at the Industry Information Center (BIC) in W\u00f6rth am Rhein, in close proximity to the plant. Electric truck customers can test charging stations and charging concepts from various manufacturers here and work with experts from Mercedes-Benz Trucks on tailored charging solutions for their applications.<\/p>\n
