With the aim of making road transport more sustainable, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is entering into a pioneering partnership with shipzero. The Hamburg-based company specializes in measuring and reducing CO2 emissions in global freight transport. The collaboration builds on a pilot project that has been successfully running since April of this year. As part of the cooperation, shipzero supports the entire data management process and determines the CO2 emissions for Hellmann’s global road business.<\/h5>\n

(Osnabr\u00fcck\/Hamburg) In doing so, shipzero also incorporates primary data from external logistics partners into the calculations, ensuring that the CO2 measurements are based on actual consumption data rather than estimates and averages, as has been common in the market.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

To determine precise emission values, data exchange occurs via shipzero’s platform between Hellmann and its transport partners, allowing for accurate Scope 3 emissions to be collected per customer, shipment, and route segment. These are then integrated into the calculation of the corporate carbon footprint, external audits, as well as customer and sustainability reports, thus supporting compliance with new regulatory requirements that will come into effect in 2024. Through data-driven preparation and analysis of traffic data, Hellmann can identify concrete decarbonization projects within the supply chain and implement them together with its partners.
\u201cIn today’s world, sustainability is a key issue, and legal regulations also demand transparency in the supply chain. Hellmann has taken on this challenge as one of the first major logistics service providers and is using the innovative technology of shipzero to create precise, shipment-related CO2 emission calculations for road transport based on primary data. This not only responds to customer demands and regulatory requirements but also allows us to optimize our supply chains and reduce CO2 emissions in road transport based on the newly gained data transparency. It is also clear: the more primary data is available, the more precise the calculation. That is why we are currently in very close contact with our external transport service providers to integrate them into this pioneering project,\u201d says Jens Wollesen, Chief Operating Officer, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.<\/p>\n
