On August 11, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions celebrated the opening of the new multi-user location in Wesel. The logistics property, covering 86,000 square meters, meets all requirements for a BREEAM Excellence certification. As part of the Green Gate to Europe facility, the site sets new standards in energy and environmental protection.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Holzwickede\/Wesel) With an opening ceremony, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions celebrated the new location at the Rhein-Lippe port in Wesel at the mouth of the Lippe River. The modern showcase project impresses both logistically and sustainably: One of the largest contiguous photovoltaic systems in Europe, with a peak output of 9 megawatts, generates electricity for the facility. This powers the geothermal system that climate-controls the building. “Even at night, the 86,000 square meter site is self-sufficient thanks to extensive battery storage systems. Thus, the new logistics center sources its energy for daily operations entirely from natural resources,” explains Dr. Stephan Peters, a board member of the Rhenus Group. To bind carbon dioxide, part of the facade is greened. In addition to electric charging stations for cars and e-bikes, a dedicated bus stop right in front of the building ensures that employees can commute to work as environmentally friendly as possible in the future. Insect hotels and birdhouses complete the sustainable features of the site. Thus, the logistics property meets all criteria for certification according to BREEAM Excellence. “Together, we have embarked on a path based on sustainability and are taking another step in the right direction with a fossil-free energy supply,” emphasizes Klemens Rethmann, shareholder of the Rhenus Group.<\/p>\n

Tailored Logistics Services Across Ten Units<\/h5>\n

Rhenus Warehousing Solutions provides tailored logistics services across ten units, serving various industries. Four hall sections are also designed for WGK3 use, allowing hazardous materials to be stored there without issues. “Rhenus actively contributes to strengthening the region by creating new jobs in both commercial and administrative areas. We also place great importance on developing employees and thus seizing opportunities for them and the company,” says Henning Brands, branch manager at the Wesel location. In addition to the opening speeches, there were detailed warehouse tours, information booths in the hall interior, and an exciting supporting program for young and old alike.<\/p>\n
