Since mid-May, Contargo Road Logistics in Hamburg has been piloting a part of the local trucking for Tchibo using fully electric trucks. The logistics service provider transports containers with raw coffee between the Port of Hamburg and the coffee warehouse, utilizing two Volvo FH Electric trucks that not only reduce noise and emissions in the port area but also minimize the ecological footprint of both companies.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Hamburg) Just at the beginning of May, the container hinterland logistics network Contargo presented its new product “econtargo” and its activities and ambitions in the field of electromobility at the transport logistic fair in Munich. Under the motto: Avoid before reducing before compensating, the company is gradually expanding its fleet of electric trucks to 32 vehicles and investing in a comprehensive charging infrastructure at all Contargo locations.<\/p>\n

One of the first customers in the fully electric container local transport in Hamburg is Tchibo. The deployed electric trucks have a range of up to 300 kilometers and can therefore also be used beyond the city area. With charging systems providing 250 kilowatts of power, the vehicles can be fully charged within two hours if needed. This allows Contargo to deploy the electric trucks as flexibly as diesel trucks, even in 24-hour operations.<\/p>\n

“We are turning many screws to become more sustainable, and logistics is of course part of that,” says Peter Maltzahn, Senior Project Manager at Tchibo. “We are pleased to be able to make the local transport of containers in the Port of Hamburg more environmentally friendly with this offering from Contargo.”<\/p>\n

“With Tchibo, we have found a strong partner who was motivated from the very beginning to realize this project,” says Frank Hommel, Director Sales & Marketing at Contargo.<\/p>\n

Christian Sch\u00e4fers, Branch Manager of Contargo Road Logistics Hamburg: “It is a great compliment for us that Tchibo is willing to work with us on alternative drives. By expanding our fleet with electric trucks, we now offer our customers here in the north an excellent opportunity to avoid CO2<\/sub> emissions. We will gradually continue to expand our electric truck fleet in Hamburg in the coming months.”<\/p>\n

32 Fully Electric Tractor Units<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The two electric vehicles in Hamburg are part of 27 new electric trucks that Contargo is currently procuring through its sister company Rhenus Trucking. This increases the number of heavy fully electric tractor units at Contargo to 32 vehicles. With these, the trimodal container network offers its customers a CO2<\/sub>-reduced transport chain. Those who book “econtargo” do not simply receive compensation services but the combined transport with electric trucks in local transport and eco-powered trains in the main run. The 44-ton trucks will be stationed at 14 Contargo locations in Germany in the future.<\/p>\n
