Cargo sous terrain (CST) is starting work on site for the first time. Through test drilling and geophysical measurements, CST is gaining precise information about the subsoil to refine the planning for the first section from H\u00e4rkingen to Zurich. With these insights, the approval processes can be expedited so that the logistics system, aimed at relieving transport routes and enhancing quality of life, can go into operation as planned in 2031.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Olten) In the current construction approval phase, the CST team is working to refine the planning of the first section from H\u00e4rkingen to Zurich. The project is being developed to the level of a preliminary project. This is necessary to achieve approval from the various federal and cantonal authorities (master plan and cantonal zoning plan). This includes demonstrating in-depth investigations, particularly in the areas of geology, traffic, excavation utilization, and environmental compatibility, where the impacts of the tunnels on groundwater resources need to be examined.<\/p>\n

No disturbances for residents<\/strong><\/h5>\n

In January 2023, CST will begin tunnel-related activities on site for the first time. This involves exploratory drilling and geophysical measurements at the surface. These will take place at several locations along the first section. The investigations aim to deepen knowledge about the characteristics of the subsoil and obtain a more precise picture of the geological layers. The test drilling will reach depths of 100 meters and more. Above ground, mobile facilities a few meters high will be visible.<\/p>\n

The specialized companies are using modern, environmentally friendly methods that will minimize the impact on residents. Apart from minor noise emissions and temporary traffic stops at some measurement points, there will be no disturbances to the surroundings. There will also be no negative impacts from vibrations or electrical impulses on the subsoil (e.g., for groundwater resources). From the site of the current activities, no preliminary decision can yet be inferred regarding the detailed route. This will only be determined in the upcoming master and zoning plan procedures. The examination of the rocks through core samples and borehole tests provides data on geology and hydrogeology. Specifically, it aims to find out exactly how the subsoil is composed, where the groundwater reservoirs run, and what other construction-relevant properties exist. Prior to the work, CST informs local authorities, property owners, and the media about the commencement of activities. The first drilling will begin at the end of January 2023.<\/p>\n
