Together with GS1 Austria, a company specialized in creating international process standards, and the Logistics Alliance Multiway, the software company BigMile supports the Lean & Green initiative in Austria. The goal of the initiative is to accurately quantify the current CO2<\/sub> emissions of a company.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Karlsruhe) The Lean & Green initiative was founded in 2008 in the Netherlands. Its aim is to voluntarily reduce the CO2<\/sub> emissions of participating companies, regardless of political requirements, to a level that allows compliance with the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. Currently, the initiative is active in 12 European countries and has more than 500 participating companies. In Austria, Lean & Green is represented by a collaboration between GS1 Austria and the Logistics Alliance Multiway, which organizes the activities.<\/p>\n

Gradually optimize the CO2<\/sub> footprint<\/strong><\/h5>\n

A crucial tool for achieving the initiative’s goals is the accurate quantitative measurement of a company’s current CO2<\/sub> emissions across the entire supply chain. Based on the data collected, extensive optimization measures can be taken to gradually reduce emissions, ultimately aiming for climate neutrality. This task is handled by the SaaS calculation and analysis platform BigMile, which allows logistics providers and shippers to not only report their CO2<\/sub> footprint from transportation but also to optimize it progressively. This can be done multimodally and globally if needed. The solution provides insights into the structural details of emissions. For example, the emission volume can be broken down by customer, logistics provider, individual shipment, or served region. Lean & Green members have access to a special BigMile tool free of charge.<\/p>\n

  • Standard-compliant and standardized calculation of transport emissions, supporting and standardizing the Lean & Green accreditation process, thereby reducing efforts.<\/li>\n
  • Accredited calculation based on different data qualities by the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC).<\/li>\n
  • Monitoring of achieved savings, support for certification as a 1st Star of the Lean & Green initiative and all other certification levels.<\/li>\n
  • Derivation of measures for optimizing and reducing the CO2<\/sub> footprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The BigMile platform is already used by the Lean & Green initiative in many countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. With the launch of Lean & Green in Austria, it is now also being implemented here from the very beginning. The implementation of the cooperation follows the model of Lean & Green in Germany and many other countries, with audits in Austria conducted by the independent auditing company Pulswerk.<\/p>\n

    Showcase product for corporate initiative<\/strong><\/h5>\n

    Tobias H\u00e4\u00dfler, CEO of BigMile Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, emphasizes the importance of the initiative’s launch in Austria for the overall decarbonization process: “Lean & Green is a showcase project for corporate initiative in climate protection. It can only be efficient enough if it operates as widely as possible. Therefore, Austria’s commitment to this network is all the more important, bringing a pan-European effort to reduce CO2<\/sub> emissions closer. The integration of the BigMile platform from the start significantly facilitates the objectives of Lean & Green.”<\/p>\n
