(Luxembourg) WAVES S.\u00e0 r.l. from Luxembourg is a software company that provides a cloud-based platform for calculating sustainability indicators as well as consulting in the field of sustainability management. With its first two modules aimed at increasing transparency in sustainability in logistics, the company is perfectly in line with current trends. It supports shippers, freight forwarders, and transport companies equally in building an emission-free supply chain. At WAVES, sustainability is viewed not only through the lens of avoiding or reducing CO\u2082 but also through the adherence to human rights and the rejection of child labor, known as “Social Footprints.”<\/p>\n

Founded in 2019 by CEO Armin Neises and Matthias Brinkert, the start-up helps its clients build their sustainability from the ground up, taking into account legal frameworks. Using WAVES’ own Sustainability Management Platform (SMP), which collects relevant data for sustainability, evaluations are clearly displayed on a dashboard, allowing clients to draw their conclusions. “Many, often smaller or medium-sized companies lack the know-how about sustainability, and that\u2019s where WAVES’ software comes into play. The company has already developed two modular approaches for the transport sector. Through the Sustainability Management Platform (SMP), freight forwarders are supported in calculating their actual CO\u2082 emissions, and users can calculate expected emissions during the quotation phase and make comparisons among competitors and different modes of transport.<\/p>\n

For freight forwarders and transporters, WAVES offers the software “Sustainable Transport”. The award-winning CO\u2082 calculation for transports allows users to determine CO\u2082 emissions down to the shipment level based on real-time data and identify potential savings.<\/p>\n

The emissions are displayed in a clear dashboard and allocated to tours, shipments, individual vehicles, or by customer. This way, the transporter can draw precise conclusions about where the most emissions are generated and take appropriate measures to reduce emissions.<\/p>\n

Users can calculate both preliminary, main, and subsequent runs, providing them with a decision-making aid across all modes of transport regarding which choice of transport generates the least emissions.<\/p>\n

No One Can Ignore Sustainability Anymore<\/strong><\/h5>\n

“Executives must learn to manage sustainability. Sustainability indicators must be monitored just as cost controlling has been done for many years,” compares Neises the requirements for management in terms of sustainability management.<\/p>\n

There is no way around it. New standards and laws are being prepared, for example, at the EU level, which must be met. Customers and partners also demand compliance with these requirements from logistics service providers and suppliers. “Just the announcement of professionally managing sustainability can already bring new customers,” recommends Neises.<\/p>\n

At WAVES, these requirements have already been integrated into the platform so that users can minimize their administrative effort. Neises adds: “We are currently in the certification process with T\u00dcV Rheinland, which confirms the accuracy of the results we calculate. This ensures our clients that scientifically based formulas are applied, ensuring compliance with the standards relevant to the transport sector from the ‘Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC<\/em>).”<\/p>\n

Expanding Further in the Future<\/strong><\/h5>\n

With its first two products aimed at making emission values transparent, WAVES has entered the market, but this is just the beginning. Currently, the company is developing additional modules to cover other sectors beyond logistics. In total, four steps have been defined for the coming years, from “Carbon Footprints” to “Environmental Footprints,” to “Social Footprints,” and finally to “Circular Economy.”<\/p>\n

“The development of new products is underway. For example, we plan to introduce a module on our platform for evaluating emissions in intralogistics. This will include the total building consumption values,” explains Neises.<\/p>\n

Further geographical expansion is planned. WAVES started in Germany, Luxembourg, and Austria. This year, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, and Scandinavia are to be added. By 2025, the Luxembourgers aim to be represented worldwide.<\/p>\n
