In transport logistics, 11% of loading and unloading operations in warehouses need to be rescheduled at short notice, often manually. Early or late arriving vehicles during the loading and unloading of trucks are responsible for increased waiting times. The new rescheduling function of Transporeon’s Real Time Yard Management (RTYM) helps to mitigate excessive workloads at the loading dock due to last-minute changes.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(Ulm) Transporeon expands its Real Time Yard Management (RTYM) solution with a new intelligent rescheduling function that allows the loading team to respond immediately to last-minute changes on the day of delivery or pickup. Customers can now effectively move scheduled appointments (time slot bookings) to another time and\/or another loading or unloading location if needed. The rescheduling function saves costs incurred from waiting times and simultaneously prevents poorly coordinated facilities and inefficient dock planning.<\/p>\n

According to a survey conducted by Transporeon and the ARC Advisory Group, more than one-tenth of loading operations (11%) in warehouses need to be rescheduled throughout the day. The survey also highlights a significant technological gap in the processes of loading operations: nearly two-thirds of respondents handle their rescheduling entirely manually. Furthermore, 16% of respondents do not use any digital solution for their time slot management at all. As a result, these logistics professionals cannot account for early or late arriving trucks in their planning, making peak times and arrival delays unpredictable.<\/p>\n

Reduce waiting times by more than an hour<\/strong><\/h5>\n

With its time slot management and Real Time Visibility (RTV) solutions, Transporeon supports its customers in updating loading and unloading processes through automated processes with immediate updates. On average, survey participants were able to reduce their daily waiting times by more than an hour simply by using the time slot management solution. Additionally, users of yard management receive a constantly updated overview of incoming and outgoing transports, enabling more efficient real-time planning.<\/p>\n

Transporeon CEO Stephan Sieber explains that “time slot management has been used for planning loading and unloading for several years. When the time slot for loading or unloading is booked, it usually happens hours, if not days, before the process takes place, during which delays and changes can always occur. When companies combine the planning aspect of time slot management with Real Time Visibility data, they can use the platform to update loading and unloading sequences and optimize these processes in real time. Everyone involved benefits from this.”<\/p>\n

Potential for Yard Management<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Accordingly, the survey conducted by Transporeon and the ARC Advisory Group cites a “lack of predictability and planning” as the second most important cause of waiting times, right after “peak loads of arriving vehicles.” Also, “communication problems” mentioned by respondents could be addressed by the introduction of RTYM. Furthermore, the solution proposed by Transporeon, a “combination of time slots with real-time data,” was rated by respondents as the technology with the greatest potential for future yard management.<\/p>\n
