With the cooling packaging “IceCoat”, the Braunschweig packaging company Streiff & Helmold wins the national and international “Worldstar Packaging Award 2022”. The unique construction is free of plastic. The sustainable packaging can be disposed of in the regular paper bin.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

(PresseBox; Braunschweig) In the middle of last year (2021), our sustainable and waterproof cooling packaging “IceCoat” was awarded the German Packaging Award in the category “Functionality & Convenience”. The jury was convinced not only by the unique construction but also by the extremely easy application of the mobile cooler, as the cooling effect is achieved through an enclosing ice mantle – the secondary packaging only needs to be filled with tap water. During the freezing process, the aforementioned ice mantle forms, which can cool beverages, sweets, frozen goods, or even pharmaceutical products for hours.<\/p>\n

IceCoat combines two functions as packaging and cooler through an innovative construction, credited to the inventors Sven Streiff (Managing Partner) and Maik Bermeitinger (Head of Product Development at STREIFFGruppe). Now, the packaging development from Braunschweig has also convinced internationally and was additionally awarded the WorldStar Packaging Award 2022 (WPO) in the category “Beverages”.<\/p>\n

The Construction is the Innovation<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The idea for IceCoat stemmed from the thought of developing a sustainable secondary packaging with a secondary use that is ideally suited for product presentation. A midsummer garden party (before the pandemic) was the actual trigger. Two years of development resulted in packaging that does not rely on composite materials like the well-known film coatings based on fossil raw materials. Instead, IceCoat uses an FSC\/PEFC-certified substrate with a plastic-free barrier, which is processed using a novel printing method. The sophisticated construction does not require adhesives and allows the use of conventional packaging materials. This makes IceCoat recyclable without material separation, or disposal is simply done through the paper recycling bin. A convenience packaging should also be “convenient” when it comes to disposal. With careful handling, the cooling packaging can even be reused multiple times after drying.<\/p>\n

Ceremonial Award in May in Milan<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The Worldstar Packaging Award, awarded as part of the WorldStar Competition, is considered the most significant international award for packaging. The award symbolizes the continuous development in the fields of packaging development and packaging technology and sets high standards for the entire industry. The award once again confirms the innovative strength of the development department of the STREIFFGruppe. Furthermore, this current award is the third international award for the STREIFFGruppe in a row. Previously, the “Magnetic Levitation Stage” and the three-dimensional Christmas Tree Advent Calendar caused a stir.<\/p>\n

The winners of the Worldstar Packaging Award 2022 were announced in December 2021. The ceremonial presentation of the awards is planned for May 4 in Milan as part of the Ipack Ima event (May 3 – 6) in collaboration with the Italian Packaging Institute.<\/p>\n
